How B-12 Deficiency Can Impact Your Health
A new study says B-12 deficiency leads to increased stroke and heart attack- makes sense since inflammation is the root cause of these problems. As an FYI- from ages 3-99- I see B-12 deficiency in almost everyone.
B-12 is necessary for a multitude of cellular processes to be performed- including energy production, proper nervous system functioning, and detoxification. If you have any sort of chronic health issue- be it physical or psychological- you need to make sure your B-12 level is optimal!
If a doctor checks your B-12 level, and tells you it’s ‘fine’, be sure they are using a methylmalaunic acid (MMA) lab value (found in urine or blood) to determine whether your B-12 level is adequate. Normal or high plasma B-12 levels can miss a deficiency… When there is not enough B-12 making its way into cells MMA is produced. This is the value that needs to be looked at.
Some people carry genetic mutations (MTHFR/CBS) that do better with a compounded form of B-12, delivered every 2-3 days subcutaneously.
Buyer Beware…
Cyanocobalamin is a cheaper synthetic form of B-12 typically prescribed by docs that is covered by insurance, but frequently unable to efficiently address the cellular needs associated with a deficiency.
